My Mom was such a character. I miss her. She had so many little "sayings". Seems like she had one for every circumstance! One of hers was "Well, the fats in the fire now." or "Goodness gracious gravy grew." (I'm still wondering what that one really means, but she always said it when things looked impossible.

One of hers was "Well, the fat's in the fire now!" or "Goodness gracious gravy grew." (I'm still wondering what that one really means, but she always said it when things looked impossible.)
I found myself saying these lately....either in my own circumstances or when family or someone I know are going through....well....I'll just say it......hell. And almost everyone I know...no, actually I think EVERYONE I know has some major problem or issue going on in their lives. For some it's relationships or divorce, for others maybe death, illness or accident, or financial problems, and some just have strange stuff going on that don't fall in a typical defined problem category.
It makes you wonder....what's going on, and more often than not say, "Why me? Why another problem? Why can't I just get a break for a while?" I know, I've said it. Recently.
But isn't it odd and wonderful all at the same time how God will just seem to hit you up side the head with the answer to it all? No, not necessarily the answer to the problem itself, but the answer to why. IF we will look at things from His eyes, we'll see that most of the time, it's for us to help others.
Just when I thought things may be hopeless, my Bible reading fell on 2 Corinthians:3-10 that says "All praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the source of every mercy and the God who comforts us. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 5 You can be sure that the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. 6 So when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your benefit and salvation! For when God comforts us, it is so that we, in turn, can be an encouragement to you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. 7 We are confident that as you share in suffering, you will also share God's comfort. 8 I think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and completely overwhelmed, and we thought we would never live through it. 9 In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we learned not to rely on ourselves, but on God who can raise the dead. 10 And he did deliver us from mortal danger. And we are confident that he will continue to deliver us."
Wow. That's powerful. And comforting. And hopeful. And well....just like Jesus to send the Word at just the right time. So today, decide to use your struggles, conflicts or issues to help someone else through the same type of things you've gone through. If you don't know of anyone now who needs it.....just wait. Soon you will.
As my Mom would say, "Everything's gonna be alright. It always is."
